Benet won’t have to share ESCC title

Benet (24-4, 7-1) won for the 100th time in the last four years and also wrapped up the outright championship in the East Suburban Catholic Conference with the 48-47 win Wednesday in Lisle.

The Redwings saw Nazareth (13-13, 2-7) turn a 9-point deficit into a 47-47 tie late in the game, but Benet center Sean O’Mara was fouled with no time remaining. O’Mara hit the first attempt to win the game.

Pat McInerney finished with 13 points for Benet while O’Mara added 12 points.

Proviso East 66, Hinsdale Central 59:

West Suburban Silver champion Hinsdale Central (18-6) made a valiant effort against state-ranked Gold champion Proviso East (22-3), but the Red Devils’ 12-game winning streak came to an end.

Glenbard North 61, Naperville North 40:

The host Panthers (12-12, 7-7) rolled to the DuPage Valley Conference win as seven players scored at least 4 points. Justin Jackson and Kendall Holbert each scored 12 points. Anthony Rehayem and Bryan LoLordo scored 11 apiece for Naperville North (19-8, 9-5).

Glenbard West 73, Willowbrook 62:

Sophomore guard Keith Hayes exploded for 19 of his game-high 27 points in the first half of the Hilltoppers’ West Suburban Conference crossover victory. Corey Davis and Dikiria Washington chipped in 13 points each for Glenbard West (13-12). Josh Joiner led Willowbrook (10-16) with 24 points. Nick Kilianek tallied 13 points.
