Naperville Heritage Society awaits new leader

The next president and CEO of the Naperville Heritage Society will have 44 years worth of Peggy Frank's shoes to fill, but those conducting the search are confident their next leader will take the society and Naper Settlement to new heights.

Frank, the organization's only other president and CEO, retired at the beginning of the year.

Steve Grosskopf, chairman of the heritage society's search committee, said he already has seen applications from across the country and even across the globe.

“Everyone thinks their search for the ideal candidate is unique and special but I think the response that we've seen is proving we really are in the middle of something special,” Grosskopf said Wednesday. “When we wrap this up, the expectation is we will have found a truly dynamic individual who embodies the great combination of someone who has a great deal of institutional experience but is also prepared to lead us to new heights in our fundraising efforts.”

Applications continue to come in with no deadline established, but Grosskopf said the committee intends to name Frank's successor by June.

“It's an aggressive timeline but we have a couple things in our favor,” he said. “We have an incredible staff running the place day to day. We don't want to skip a beat on any work Peggy has done. So the sooner we bring this person on board, the sooner these things can start rolling.”

Mike Krol, chairman of the Naperville Heritage Society Board, said the next leader will be chosen strategically to celebrate the region's “rich history and enhance Naper Settlement's bright future.”

Grosskopf said the board is also seeking a long-term commitment from the next president, resulting in the executive being rooted in the community as a citizen and leader.

“Whoever the selection ends up being, we will certainly make sure it's understood that this is a local leader for the institution,” he said. “This person will be someone for the entire community to embrace.”
