The family dog was shut in a basement office in one of three similar burglaries in one night in one area of Arlington Heights, police said. Items taken in the burglaries include jewelry, watches and a safe bolted into a concrete floor.

Burglars forced the rear door at a home on the 1300 block of South Walnut Avenue between 3:30 and 7 p.m. Feb. 15, locked up the dog and ransacked four bedrooms. They took a pillowcase, gold jewelry and a men's watch.

Burglars forced a rear door at a second home on the 1300 block of South Walnut Avenue between 6 and 7 p.m., ransacked rooms, and took a safe that contained cash, personal documents, jewelry and savings bonds. They apparently broke a security light, but the family dog was not confined.

Burglars forced the rear door at a home on the 1300 block of South Ridge Avenue between 6:10 and 9:05 p.m., broke the rear deck light, and took two pillowcases, a 24-carat gold pendant valued at $500 and six women's watches valued at $7,500.
