Westfield plans to be discussed

By

The Vernon Hills village board on Tuesday informally will consider several variations and approvals associated with a proposed $40 million to $50 million upgrade of the Westfield Hawthorn mall. A main element of the plan calls for a new mall entrance between Sears and JCPenney, with new restaurants situated beneath a 12-screen, 1,200-seat theater. Village officials already have given informal approval to a Dave & Buster’s restaurant/arcade at the southeast mall entrance. Village staff supports the majority of the work, but has recommended against the installation of two 48-foot tall entrance signs with LED panels and does not support advertising on exterior signs from businesses outside the mall. The board will consider the plan at its informal committee of the whole session following the regular meeting, which begins at 7 p.m. at village hall, 290 Evergreen Drive.
