Prioritize them, and briefly discuss why you believe each to be critical, and how the board should go about addressing them.Maintaining programs and services to the residents of the township at current or decreased costs to the taxpayers while having a balanced budget. In my short time on the board I have seen the high level of services the residents receive from the township. We need to be able to continue these without raising the costs to taxpayers. We need to find ways to do more with less; this comes from looking at ways to be as efficient as we can. Continuing to be the level of government that is closest to its residents and using that relationship to best provide for their needs. This board is active in the community in different ways and we need to continue to use the feedback we gain to maintain or improve our services. Continue to make the recent partnership with The Kenneth Young Center a success for the residents of the township. KYC is a successful, proven organization that is able to provide the residents a valuable slate of services at a decreased cost to taxpayers. In the 21st Century, with municipalities gobbling up vacant land, why are townships needed? Should they be serving a new role? If so, what? The main goals of township government are social services. These include, but are not limited to Senior, Disabled, Counseling, Transportation and Tax Assessment Services. I am not aware of another level of government that could provide all of these detailed services at such a minimal cost to the taxpayer. The role of township government should always be developing and tweaked to meet the needs of its residents but I do not see the need for townships to serve a new role. Our challenge is to better the role we do serve by providing the services that are needed, if not more, without raising costs to taxpayers. What should be the primary responsibility of township government? The primary responsibility of township government is as stated in the Schaumburg Township mission statement "....is to provide social and other services to meet the needs of the community in a fiscally responsible manner."In these hard economic times, can you identify some township expenses/programs that could be trimmed or eliminated to reduce the tax burden? In these hard economic times the township has seen an increase in the number of residents utilizing its services. It is hard to try to cut programs at times when they are being used. We try to do more with less and I feel we are doing a good job of providing much needed services at a minimal cost to the taxpayer. The amount I spent to fill my gas tank today is just about what I pay in taxes to the Town Fund, General Assistance and Road Bridge every year. It's good to see what the township can do for all its residents with my small amount of tax dollars. What specific background or experience do you bring that makes you the best qualified candidate to serve as an elected official in the township? My business background with successful experiences in being "lean" and understanding that an entity cannot be successful if it spends more than its takes in make me the best qualified candidate to serve as an elected official in Schaumburg Township. I have seen, first hand, some of the needs of the residents and understand how important our programs are to them. My private sector successes have taught me that we need to be efficient if we are going to continue to provide these programs without having to take more money from the taxpayers.
