Is there a particular issue that motivates you, and if so, what is it?In my first two terms, we hired a wonderful new director and put the library back on a solid footing in terms of the overall physical plant. It is now time to update the interior of the library to comport with techilogical and social change. If you are an incumbent, describe your main contributions. Tell us of important initiatives you've led. If you are a non-incumbent, tell us what special contributions you could make.Led hiring committee for current director. As member of Facilities Committee, deeply involved in developing and implementing overall building renovation and long-term capital asset plan.Do you have a library card? How long have you had it? How often do you use it?Yes, since I first moved to Glen Ellyn in 1997. I use it at least weekly.Space is usually an issue at libraries. If that's the case at your library, would your solution be to expand the physical plant or make room by doing away with parts of the collection that technology has made less critical? Explain. The latter. We are already well on our way, having gone to online versions of encyclopedias, magazine indices, etc. Most reference and research-based materials are cheaper and easier to update online. What impact have economic and technological changes had on libraries? How does a library remain relevant? How should its role in the community change? We are no longer a passive information repository. The library has become a de facto community service center for students, families and professionals. We are more relevant than ever as people need a place to meet and collaborate. We must continue to offer services and programs to educate, inform and entertain.
