Boston fines Walgreens for poor snow removal

BOSTON — Boston has fined five Walgreens pharmacies a total of $2,000 for failing to clear their sidewalks after last weekend’s snow storm.

Sgt. Chris Stockbridge of the city’s code enforcement police tells The Boston Globe that two stores in Roxbury, two in Dorchester, and one in Mattapan were each cited twice.

Under city ordinances, snow must be removed from sidewalks and curb ramps abutting businesses and residences no more than three hours after snowfall has ended.

Failure to properly shovel can result in daily fines of $200 for commercial properties.

Deerfield-based Walgreens said in a statement that despite the “magnitude of the storm” it had crews working 24 hours to clear parking lots and sidewalks and cleanup efforts are ongoing.
