Support of drug fight is ludicrous

Writing as a retired detective, your "hope" that the Chicago Strike Force will reduce the amount of drugs in the area is based on what (Our view, Feb. 5)? After 41 years of effort, a trillion dollars spent, dozens of plans and strategies implemented and discarded, you still have this irrational hope to see the situation improve. Yikes!

Per the federal Drug Enforcement Agency, "Drugs are readily available to America's youth." This prohibition policy has been the most dysfunctional, destructive and immoral policy since slavery and Jim Crow. Please tell us why you support a policy that generates a job option for Chicago-area youth to become a drug dealer and then be shot dead.
