A free Abraham Lincoln app for smartphones has been officially launched to coincide with the 16th president's birthday.

The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Foundation and AT&T announced the application Tuesday.

History buffs can learn Lincoln facts using the app, quiz themselves about his life and see pictures of the presidential museum.

One feature — called "Abe-a-day" — gives a daily reminder of what Lincoln accomplished for the nation.

The free app's sound effects are based on sounds Lincoln and his family heard every day. The quiz timer is a recording of Lincoln's office clock ticking. A wrong answer triggers the clock's gong. A right answer is greeted by Robert Lincoln's dinner bell.

The app is available for iPhones and for phones using Android-based operating systems.
