Citing job loss, Walsh seeks child support change
Former Congressman Joe Walsh said last night he has “no intention of stopping support” after Jack Coladarci, attorney for Walsh’s ex-wife Laura Walsh, said yesterday the McHenry Republican — citing current unemployment — is not complying with his support agreement. Walsh’s attorneys filed a motion in Cook County circuit court on Feb. 1 to “terminate” his current child support obligation. But Walsh said he is seeking to modify his child support obligation “to equal to 20 percent of his net income” until his youngest son graduates from high school in May. Full story.
Jury awards $1 million to DuPage deputy
A deputy who claimed that DuPage County Sheriff John E. Zaruba failed to promote her because she did not support him politically was awarded $1 million in federal court yesterday. Susan Lakics filed suit against Zaruba and the county in 2009 alleging politics and sexual discrimination repeatedly kept her from being promoted beyond her position as a deputy between 1997 and 2009. Schaumburg man threatens woman with knife, police say
A 22-year-old Schaumburg man faces charges of attempted first-degree murder, unlawful restraint and aggravated domestic battery after police say he held a knife to his girlfriend’s neck and threatened to kill her. Marcos A. Milan-Soto appeared in court yesterday and received a $750,000 bail. Full story.
Dist. 300 teacher earns reading educator of the year
Community Unit District 300 celebrated one of its teachers last night. Barbara Malinger, a Perry Elementary School teacher earned Illinois Reading Educator of the Year. She’ll receive an award at a ceremony in March. Full story.
Arlington Downs project to get under way
The first phase of the Arlington Downs project that will bring apartments and a water park to Arlington Heights near Arlington Park will break ground in coming weeks. An additional phase is expected to bring a hotel to the property, as well as retail and restaurants. Full story.
District 116 details restructuring plan
Shifting decision-making from the district level to school principals is one of the details that emerged last night on how Round Lake Area Unit District 116 intends to change how education is delivered to students. About 65 spectators attended a community forum last night at Round Lake High School’s theater to view the latest presentation on the district’s tentative restructuring plan aimed at boosting academic achievement. Bulls fall to Spurs
The San Antonio Spurs bested the Bulls 103-89 at home, even without three of their starting players. Tony Parker, Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili were all out with injuries. Nate Robinson scored 20 and Richard Hamilton earned 16 for the Bulls. Full story.
