State Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka is sitting on $9 billion in overdue bills because of a lack of money to pay them with. Two years ago this state legislature passed a 67 percent increase in the state income tax which results in, approximately, $6 billion in additional revenue to the state annually.
Where is all of this money going? Perhaps the Daily Herald could do a story on this. I have seen or heard nothing about a reduction in the overdue bills or the $96 billion shortage in the pension fund. Meanwhile the state’s debt increases $17 per day because of the legislature’s failure to act.
