Provena Mercy Medical Center and the American Heart Association are encouraging businesses and community organizations in Aurora to “Paint the Town Red,” during February’s American Heart Month.
Provena Mercy hopes to see every outdoor electronic sign in the Aurora area use red lettering and provide “Paint the Town Red” messages during February in an effort to raise awareness about heart disease.
The initiative is designed to create a buzz about heart health and get people talking about the red-lettered signs and the businesses that support building healthier communities.
Also, by working together, the effort is intended to boost community spirit and the strong sense of connection community leaders have with the Aurora area.
“This initiative to raise awareness about heart disease is a great way for us to come together as a community and promote the importance of good health,” Mayor Tom Weisner said. “We believe that a healthier community is a stronger community. Aurora is a community that is rich in health care resources, and we are looking forward to Painting the Town Red in February.”
Participants include Aurora Walgreens stores; CVS stores on Indian Trail and Eola Road; Fairview Dental; Fuller’s Car Wash; IBEW Local 461; Jet Bright Car Wash; Jiffy Lube on Sullivan Road; Laguna Auto Spa; McDonald’s on Fox Valley Center Drive; NASCAR Car Wash; Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 501; Quad County Urban League; VNA Health Care’ and Westfield Fox Valley Mall.
Provena Mercy is committed to building healthier communities and hopes more businesses will join together in the fight against heart disease, which is the leading cause of death among men and women, according to the AHA.
Interested organizations can join this effort at any time during February by posting red lettering and including the message, “We’re Painting the Town Red for Heart Awareness.”
