One airlifted from North Aurora crash

One person is in critical condition after a crash in North Aurora that shut down Route 25 for several hours on yesterday afternoon, officials said. North Aurora police responded to a one-car accident where the vehicle had crashed into a utility pole on Route 25 near the entrance to Red Oak Nature Center. One person from that car was airlifted to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove and was in critical condition. The road was closed for nearly five hours, but reopened to traffic last night. Family remembers former Mount Prospect trustee

Visitation will be held today for Theodore J. Wattenberg, a former Mount Prospect trustee who died over the weekend at the age of 104. “People would always ask what was the secret to his longevity. He always took more interest in other people and what their needs are and how he could help other people, as opposed to his own needs,” said his daughter Margaret Shechtman. Wattenberg spent 16 years on the Mount Prospect village board. Full story.

Dance teams converge in Batavia for competition

St. Charles North was one of about 40 teams competing at the Team Dance Illinois tournament yesterday at Batavia High School. Almost 80 performances filled the day as teams from across the region competed for tournament trophies and placement in the state competition next month in Peoria. Full story.

Palatine music store owner’s dying wish to be honored

For John Giovannoni, co-owner of The Music Room in downtown Palatine, a dying request has become a reason to celebrate. “His request before he passed away was that he didn’t want a service or a memorial or a funeral or any of that, but he wanted a party,” said Lindsey Lindstrom, a former employee who is organizing the party. The party celebrating Giovannoni’s life will be held Sunday, Feb. 17, at The Music Room, 26 N. Brockway in Palatine. He died Jan. 13. Full story.

Hawks close out 4-0-2 road trip

The daunting part of the Blackhawks’ schedule is over and who could have predicted this? After playing 10 of their first 12 games on the road, the Hawks will return to the United Center on Tuesday still without a loss in regulation after beating Nashville 3-0 last night. That closed a six-game road trip at 4-0-2 and left the Hawks a stunning 10-0-2 for the season. “It was a great road trip from start to finish,” Hawks coach Joel Quenneville told reporters. Overcast and windy this morning with temperatures in the low to mid 30s. The winds will sustain at about 25 mph and gust up to about 50 mph. Temperatures will dip back to 23 degrees overnight tonight, but the winds will calm down. Full story.
