Scouting Mid-Suburban League diving

Scouting Mid-Suburban League diving

When: 6 p.m. Friday at Barrington

Outlook: Each MSL schools enters two divers in pursuit of scoring points toward the overall conference meet totals. The meet continues with the swimming events starting at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Scouting report: Whatever the outcome, it will be different from recent seasons. Barrington's Nolan Presmyk, who won the event two straight years, has graduated. The three who finished behind him last season -- Conant's John Maevski, BG's Julian Vasquez and Hoffman Estates' Nick Cannella -- were also seniors. But what a great crop of divers the league has produced this year. Several have state meet aspirations, notably Hersey's Mat Obstoj, Schaumburg's Dylan Rust and Matt Sigler and Rolling Meadows' Matt Crigler and Alex del Bosque. All have produced 6-dive dual scores well above 200 and seem poised to battle it out for conference supremacy. Hersey junior Jack Kintzle has also surpassed 200 several times and could earn a top spot.

Other top competitors figure to hail from Conant (Bartek Turek), Barrington (John Sadlowski), Elk Grove (Joseph Kraemer), Fremd (Cameron Hewett), Hoffman Estates (Luke Iehl), Buffalo Grove (Brian Froelicher and Josh Opperman), Prospect (Stephen Schmit and Stephen Mutzabaugh) and Wheeling (Austin Lockwood).
