State auditor general accused of DUI

SPRINGFIELD — Illinois Auditor General William Holland has been arrested on a charge ofdriving under the influence of alcohol.

The State Journal-Register in Springfield reported the 61-year-old Holland was stopped late Wednesday by Illinois State Police in Springfield. In addition to DUI, Holland was cited for improper lane usage.

No additional information was available late Thursday on the circumstances of the traffic stop. Nor was there information on whether Holland was alone at the time.

Holland is to appear in Sangamon County circuit court on March 24.

Holland has served as auditor general since 1992. He began his third 10-year term in August. His duties include auditing the use of public funds and reporting findings and recommendations to the governor and the General Assembly.

Telephone calls to Holland for comment were unsuccessful.
