A classy move and great job by Jim Harbaugh

LAS VEGAS — I have to admit, I am so impressed with John Harbaugh, not only as head coach of the Baltimore Ravens, but as a big brother.

I have two younger brothers, so I am familiar with the big brother position in the family. I watched the classy Baltimore coach and the way he handled himself and the way he praised his younger brother, Jim Harbaugh, head coach of the San Francisco 49ers.

John said Jim was the best coach in football, when in reality John is the better coach.

Pretty impressive.

Really there are no set rules for how the big brother handles himself in the family, but the "Big Brother" term does dictate a leadership role.

I know this — as a kid you never want to lose to your younger brothers in anything. Every big brother handles things differently, but sibling rivalries within a family can get dicey at times, and especially when you're involved in sports.

My brothers John and Danny competed with me on everything — from who can race the fastest down the block where we lived, to who could eat the most beef sandwiches at a family party. The results of these competitions don't matter — but the fact is I learned how to compete at a young age just because of them.

That's what brothers do. Big brothers usually aren't as gracious as John Harbaugh seems, but make no mistake I'm sure the Harbaugh brothers had their days when they didn't speak to each other or were upset with each other.

But as brothers you get over it and move on. The one thing I know is I would not be the competitor, or be as good as I try to be, if not for my brothers.

So to my brother John, who lives in Atlanta, and my brother Danny, who lives in Round Lake Beach, I want to say I'm proud of them and thanks.

If you're a big brother out there, give your younger brother or brothers a call today, because I'm sure we all agree it's not always the big brother who sets the best example, but it is the big brother who should be most gracious.

The Legend turning 50!

Michael Jordan will be 50 years old on Feb. 17th.

Are you kidding me? I remember being invited to a birthday party organized for him in the early 1990s. The party was at a local place on Milwaukee Avenue and it was a mix of some players and some media and folks just hanging out.

Now the best whoever picked up basketball will be blowing out 50 candles. It just can't be.

My thanks:

Thanks to Fox Sports Radio and comedian/sports talker Jay Mohr for doing his show at The Score Las Vegas broadcasting studio at the Luxor Hotel on Friday. My shows followed on Saturday and Sunday, and we had some laughs.

Also thanks to Pat Traficant, the godfather of hosts, for putting together a great Super Bowl Party at the M Resort. A really great time.

Program note:

Look for me on Mancow on WPWR Ch. 50 on Wednesday and Friday this week.
