Police in Skokie said they have arrested the “bad hair bandit.” The as-yet unidentified suspect is alleged to have hit roughly a dozen hair salons from Chicago to Glen Ellyn. More information will be released later today.
West Chicago teachers were expected to hit the picket lines again today as their union and West Chicago Elementary District 33 remain far apart on several issues. A strike began yesterday morning, canceling classes in six elementary schools, a junior high and a preschool that meets in two locations. The two sides don’t even agree on how the last talks ended. Island Lake mayoral hopeful Charles Amrich can’t run in the April election because of a $147 overdue garbage bill he paid after he signed his candidacy statement in December 2012, an electoral board ruled last night. The 2-1 ruling came after two hours of testimony from Amrich, village Finance Director John Little and the two men who tried to get the town’s former mayor knocked off the ballot, Daniel Field and Louis Sharp. West Dundee village leaders approved video gambling by a 5-1 vote last night. Business owners who feared they’d lose customers to surrounding towns who already allow it expressed happiness. West Dundee is neighbored by communities who allow video gambling, including Carpentersville and East Dundee. Full story.
A Villa Park man used dishes and kitchen knives to fight off three armed men who entered his home shortly after midnight Sunday. Ryan Berry, Andrew Cotton and Anthony Nutoni, all 24 years old, were charged in the attack on the 1S100 block of Dillon Lane. Full story.
The first of three former Schaumburg cops accused of shaking down drug dealers and selling drugs in DuPage County has been released from jail. Matthew Hudak, 29, posted bail yesterday afternoon after spending three weeks behind bars. He’s facing a 17-count indictment. Full story.
The trial of Sandra Rogers, accused of trying to kill her ex-husband with a sledgehammer, continues today after a Mundelein man who has spent 10 years behind bars for a 2003 attack on his girlfriend’s father told the courts yesterday that he participated only to hide an affair with his girlfriend’s mother. Sandra Rogers was serving a 30-year sentence for her role in that attack but got a new trial. Full story.
The bail was set yesterday for two of three men police believe are involved in the murder of an 18-year-old Aurora girl. Abigail Villalpando’s burned body was discovered Saturday in a wooded area near Montgomery. She had been beaten to death by a hammer. Full story.
More snow is moving in this morning and should begin to fall during the morning commute. High temperatures will reach 32 degrees later this morning, and roughly one inch of snow is expected to drop by then. Temperatures will dip back to 16 degrees after the snow ends this evening. Full weather.

The Bulls recovered and had their chances late in the game last night but fell short in a variety of ways.
