Chicago gang, drug takedown nets 43 arrests

Police have arrested 43 suspected gang members and seized $23,000 worth of illegal drugs in a citywide gang takedown.

In a press release Saturday, Chicago police Superintendent Garry McCarthy said the arrests followed investigations into gang-controlled drug markets.

McCarthy says gang and drug activity are the “root cause” of violence affecting too many of the city’s neighborhoods.

Officers seized heroin, marijuana and crack cocaine, three vehicles and more than $4,100 in cash.

Police say the suspects were charged with possession and delivery of a controlled substance. Officers are still seeking other suspects identified through the investigation.
