Ill. State Police tough on traffic for Super Bowl

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Illinois State Police say they will emphasize the "Fatal 4" traffic violations during the Super Bowl weekend.

State Police officials say they will strictly enforce the deadliest traffic abuses: drunken driving, speeding, distracted driving and not using safety belts.

Troopers issued more than 1,000 "Fatal 4" citations during the 2012 Super Bowl weekend.

State police say driving under the influence is the leading cause of traffic crashes and deaths during holidays and other festive times such as pro football's biggest weekend.

They urge motorists to plan ahead and designate a sober driver.
