Lake Shore Drive shooting linked to gangs

Authorities responding to a report of a crash on Chicago’s Lake Shore Drive found a minivan riddled with bullets and a woman who’d been fatally shot.

Illinois State Police officials investigating the shooting say it appears to have been motivated by gang and drug activity. Officials say it wasn’t a random shooting or a case of road rage.

The shooting happened early Friday on a ramp from Lake Shore Drive to Interstate 55. State police say a van pulled alongside the minivan and somebody in the van opened fire.

Authorities say the minivan’s 32-year-old driver was later pronounced dead at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. A female passenger in the minivan wasn’t injured.
