BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — The Republican lawmaker who came close to unseating Gov. Pat Quinn in 2010 said he's laying the groundwork for another run for governor.

WJBC Radio reported Friday that state Sen. Bill Brady of Bloomington sent an email to supporters asking them to donate to his campaign fund. In the email, Brady said Illinois is worse off than it was four years ago, and that he's best positioned to win back the governor's office for Republicans in 2014.

The lawmaker defeated six other candidates in the 2010 Republican primary. He lost the general election to Quinn in what was Illinois' closest governor's race in decades.

Brady said in his email hundreds, if not thousands, of people have asked him to "finish the job" he started three years ago. He said he will be traveling the state in coming weeks to speak with Illinois residents.

Other Republicans considering a bid are state Treasurer Dan Rutherford and Congressman Aaron Schock. State Sen. Kirk Dillard of Hinsdale already has announced his candidacy.

Quinn, a Democrat from Chicago, could face a primary challenge from Attorney General Lisa Madigan and former White House Chief of Staff Bill Daley.

Brady said he will make a final decision on whether to run by June.
