Funeral services set for shooting victim

By

Funeral services for the 15-year-old high school student who was gunned down in a Chicago park are scheduled for a week from Saturday.

The family of Hadiya Pendleton announced Friday her funeral will be held Feb. 9 at Greater Harvest Missionary Baptist Church at 11 a.m.

Chicago police say the reward is now $40,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the death of the King College Prep High School band majorette. Hadiya performed with the band at events for President Barack Obama’s inauguration.

Police say a gunman opened fire on Hadiya and her group, thinking they were rival gang members. But authorities say that wasn’t the case.

Originally, the award for information was $11,000. Police say contributions from several sources boosted the amount.
