A semitrailer truck that became engulfed in flames Friday afternoon on Interstate 94 in Libertyville caused traffic to slow and sent its driver to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation, authorities said.
The truck’s engine caught fire about 4:30 p.m. in the middle of the Friday afternoon rush hour, causing the driver to pull the truck over to the shoulder on eastbound Interstate 94 near Route 176, according to Sgt. Julio Serrano of the Illinois State Police.
Serrano said two right lanes were closed for about an hour as crews worked to put the flames out and remove the totaled truck from the roadway.
