Police dog found after 8-mile trek from its kennel
COLLINS, Ind. — A northeastern Indiana police chief says a police dog that escaped from a kennel was found in good health about eight miles away following a long night of wandering.
Columbia City Police Chief Tim Longenbaugh says the Dutch shepherd named Stryker escaped Tuesday afternoon from his kennel in the Whitley County town of Collins.
The 6-year-old dog used for drug searchers and tracking was found about 19 hours later on Wednesday morning by an Allen County woman who spotted a dog matching Stryker's description in her yard eight miles away from the kennel.
Longenbaugh tells the Journal Gazette that an Allen County deputy picked up the dog. He says Stryker was uninjured and in good health despite his journey. He says, “It was a long night for him.”
