Police: Drugs possibly involved in Aurora stabbing

Aurora police say drugs may have been involved in a home invasion that sent two men to a hospital with stab wounds.

Police are continuing to investigate the invasion that took place around 7:25 p.m. Wednesday at an apartment in the 500 block of Fourth Avenue on the city’s near east side.

The event does not appear to be a random act of violence, authorities said.

Officers responding to the scene found two residents with stab wounds, a 21-year-old man and a 31-year-old man. The younger man had been slashed in the face and the older man in the arm.

Investigators determined the 31-year-old opened the apartment door to let in two men who had knocked. The suspects, described only as a Hispanic man and a black man, demanded money from the residents. When the residents refused, police said each suspect showed a weapon: one a large object similar to a baton and the other a handgun.

The suspects took a wallet from one victim and cellphones from both, then slashed the 21-year-old in the face and the 31-year-old in the arm with an unknown weapon, authorities said.

Both victims were taken to an Aurora hospital and underwent surgery for their injuries. Police said a third resident of the apartment, a 41-year-old man, was not involved in the attack and was not injured.

Investigators have not definitively established a motive for the home invasion and aggravated battery, but they believe drugs may have been involved.
