Cops: Store clerk badly beaten in Aurora robbery

By Marie Wilson

A liquor store clerk was badly beaten during an armed robbery Tuesday evening on Aurora's northeast side, authorities said Wednesday.

The 53-year-old clerk at Twin Liquors, 975 N. Farnsworth Ave., was found suffering from "obvious head trauma" by a customer who called 911 about 6:20 p.m., Aurora police said.

In a preliminary investigation, police learned two male suspects entered the business shortly before the 911 call was placed. One of the men, who was wearing a maroon shirt, lured the clerk to the back of the store. Then the other suspect, wearing a tan coat and orange hat, approached from behind and hit the victim over the head with an unknown object, police said.

The two suspects left with an unknown amount of cash. Police said both suspects are described as black men in their mid-30s standing about 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing between 200 and 230 pounds.

Paramedics took the clerk to an Aurora hospital, but police said he later was transported to a Downers Grove hospital for further treatment of serious injuries.

Anyone with information is asked to call Aurora police investigators at (630) 256-5500 or Aurora Area Crime Stoppers at (630) 892-1000 to qualify for a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest.
