Des Plaines fundraiser for veteran's monument

Pillars of Honor is conducting a Veteran Valentine Challenge to raise funds to keep its Traveling World War II Memorial in circulation.

Donations made will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $5,000 through Valentine's Day. Online donations may be made via PayPal through the Des Plaines group's website, www.pillarsofhonor.org.

Pillars of Honor, Inc., transports the original-scale model of the World War II Memorial in Washington D.C., designed by renowned architect Fredrick St. Florian, to local veterans unable to visit the actual memorial. Local viewing events are supported by members, volunteers, donors, and sponsors. The program includes a formal presentation of the colors, live patriotic musical performances, a historical presentation of the World War II Memorial, guest speakers, members of the military, and representatives from various veteran service organizations.
