Conant takes flight in own invite


A strong showing from Conant in the flighted boys swimming invitational hosted by the Cougars on Saturday led to a convincing victory.

Conant won the A, B and C levels and placed second in the F level to win the six-team meet with 284 points, ahead of Maine South (237.5) and Mundelein (184.50). Downers Grove North (177) was fourth, followed by Jacobs co-op (120) and Huntley (81).

Conant had individual winners in the A Class with Alex Shozda in the 100-meter free (53.94) and 100 back (1:00.70), Jonathon Burke in the 200 free (1:57.07) and 400 free (4:10.23) and Martin Pozniak in the 200 IM (2:13.21).

The Cougars also had the top 200 and 400 freestyle relays.

Mundelein senior Connor Black impressed with victories in the 100 fly (55.97) and 50 free (24.06), and the Mustangs also got a win from Art Kasements in the 100 breast and from the medley relay of Nick Arendt, Kasemets, Black and Jason Rehor.

Jacobs got second-place efforts from Alex Reinbrecht (200 free, 400 free) and Josh DeDina (100 breast).

St. Viator frosh-soph invite: Cary-Grove's young talent showed in Saturday's St. Viator frosh-soph invite, where the Trojans won the team competition with 245 points, ahead of the host Lions and Prospect, who tied for second at 207. Wheeling (195) was fourth, and Hersey (175) fifth.

Cary-Grove's Cooper Langanis won the 500-yard freestyle (5:17.82) and had a leg on the winning 200 free relay with Chase Castro, Jacob Naatz and Mitch Robak.

Wheeling had invididual wins from Kyle Noel (100 free, 51.71; 100 breast, 1:07.13) and Jake Noel (100 back, 54.69), and the Wildcats had a pair of relay wins as the Noels teamed up with Nate Reiff and Justin Loquercio in the 200 medley and 400 free.

St. Viator's winners were Charlie Wood in the 200 IM (2:08.32) and Keegan Finn in the 200 free (1:55.67), and Prospect's Michael Morikado had the fastest finish in the 100 fly (59.39).
