CHICAGO — Former NBA player Etan Thomas has been touring the U.S. talking about the importance of being a responsible parent.
On Saturday, Thomas is in Chicago to participate in a panel discussion on ways fathers, uncles brothers and grandfathers to increase their presences in the lives of their children.
Since leaving the NBA, Thomas has written a book, "Fatherhood: Rising to the Ultimate Challenge."
Thomas, who was raised by a single parent in Tulsa, Okla., says his message is that you can come from a tough situation and make the right decision.
Among those participating in the panel discussion Saturday evening at Trinity United Church of Christ are rapper Rhymefest, who is re-establishing a relationship with his father, and Syracuse University professor of finance and social commentator Boyce Watkins.
