Gov. Pat Quinn announced the recipients Thursday. The U.S. Department of the Interior grants pay for up to 70 percent of a project's costs. The rest is covered by local funds.

Quinn says the partnership will help history "come alive" in the selected communities.

Among the winners is Maywood, which will get $5,000 toward restoration of a Masonic temple listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Woodstock was awarded $4,550 to produce a video about the architectural significance of the Old McHenry Courthouse and Jail.

The southeastern Illinois town of Marshall will get $1,820 to update and reprint a walking and driving tour booklet of historic places.
