Police still seeking driver in Aurora hit-and-run

The owner of the vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run Monday in Aurora has been missing since the accident, and police said Wednesday they are seeking the public's help in locating him. Gustavo Villarreal, 44, of the 1600 block of Dearborn Avenue in an unincorporated area near Aurora, owns the 1997 Chevrolet GEO Metro that struck and killed a Des Plaines woman on Church Road near Corporate Boulevard. Arlington Heights board leaves term limits off ballot

The Arlington Heights Village Board passed up its last chance to put a term limits referendum on the April ballot Tuesday. A citizen-based referendum calling for term limits got nearly 2,700 signatures but was thrown out by the electoral board earlier this month, in part because the wording was unclear. Full story.

The city of Elgin is poised to reverse its stance on video gambling after a group of establishments and organizations pleaded with the city council at Wednesday night's meeting to allow the practice. Lombard man charged with shooting ex-girlfriend's mom in drive-by

Bail has been set at $1 million for a 19-year-old Lombard man who prosecutors say opened fire while driving past his ex-girlfriend's Wheaton home Tuesday, striking her mother though a wall. Markeith Williams, they said, was angry with his ex-girlfriend about their joint bank account. He faces charges of aggravated battery with a firearm and aggravated discharge of a firearm. Grayslake Dist. 46 teachers contract not yet written

Although Grayslake Elementary District 46 board members and the teachers union has reached a tentative contract agreement to end a strike this week, it may take two weeks or so before the two parties formally vote on the two-year contract. District 46 board members held their first open meeting Wednesday since teachers went on strike Jan. 16. Full story.

Carol Stream may allow beer, wine sales at gas stations

Beer and wine may soon be sold at Carol Stream gas stations, in response to requests from owners who say such sales could boost their bottom lines, The owners of the Mobil at Army Trail and County Farm roads, the Shell at North and Gary avenues and the BP at St. Charles and Schmale have expressed interest in selling liquor. Temperatures will remain in the single digits as you head out the door this morning, but temperatures are expected to climb to 20 degrees by this afternoon. Some snow is expected to move in and begin falling this evening, with temperatures hovering around 16 degrees. Full story.
