Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jane Smiley takes the stage at the Metropolis Performing Arts Centre Tuesday, January 29, at 7:30 p.m. for Arlington Heights Memorial Library's second in a series of author events generously funded by the Friends of the Library. Smiley is the author of numerous novels, as well as four works of nonfiction. Her novella The Age of Grief was made into the 2002 film The Secret Lives of Dentists. Her more recent book Private Life, published in 2010, traverses the intimate landscape of one woman's life, from the 1880s to World War II. Smiley received the PEN USA Lifetime Achievement Award for Literature in 2006.

The interview-style presentation will be followed by questions from the audience and a book sale and signing. Register at the Info Desk, 847-392-0100, or online at ahml.info.
