Man faces charges in robbery of Villa Park eatery

By Robert Sanchez

A 30-year-old Maywood man is facing a felony charge following the weekend robbery of a Villa Park restaurant.

Police arrested Wilbur Junior Sobota on Saturday morning when they found him about a block east of RC Grill Restaurant, 117 West St. Charles Road, shortly after the business was robbed around 6 a.m.

A suspect, later identified by a victim as Sobota, implied during the robbery that he had a gun and removed $81 from the cash register, police said. He then left the restaurant running east.

Sobota was taken into custody without incident after he was positively identified by the owner of the restaurant, police said.

Officers didn’t recover a weapon but found the stolen cash in a pocket of Sobota’s jacket, authorities said.

Sobota was transported to the DuPage County jail, where he was being held on $300,000 bond.
