Tappin' the keg

Gordon Biersch unveils a new Brewer's Select beer at a keg tapping party from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29. The new brew is a rich, copper-colored Franco-American Saison made smooth and creamy, yet dry with a spicy yeast and hopped up with two New Zealand hop varieties — Pacific Jade and Motueka — which give a tropical fruit flavor and aroma. Pints are $5.75.

Wine Goddess opens

The Wine Goddess is now open in downtown Evanston, offering more than 200 types of wine ranging in price from $7.99 to $150 per bottle. The new shop offers classes from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays introducing guests to seven wines and including light bites, like truffle popcorn, bread, cheese and nuts for $45 to $65 per person, depending on class. Weekly tastings take place for $3 between 5 and 8 p.m. on Friday and noon and 3 p.m. Saturday and include samples of five wines.
