Given all the rancor we see and hear concerning our elected officials, it's refreshing to be able to give one of them a pat on the back. Here's why.
Abraham's Children, a group working for peace in the Middle East, sponsored by First Presbyterian Wheaton, held a fundraiser last year to raise monies to ship a container of donated used-but-serviceable and badly needed medical equipment and supplies, supplied by the Hospital Sisters Mission Outreach, to Holy Family Hospital in Nazareth.
Our fundraiser was successful, and the container was shipped. But once it arrived at the port in Israel the project hit a snag over customs issues that were baffling to us and the hospital. After 90 days of impasse we reached out to Congressman Randy Hultgren's Washington office to see what could be done. For the next six weeks Randy's staff worked diligently to sort out the problems while giving us regular reports along the way. Thanks in large part to all their legwork we got the news that Holy Family Hospital received the shipment on Dec. 20 -- what a joyous Christmas gift.
Without Randy's help we might still be wrestling with this issue, and warming blankets for premature babies might still be sitting at the dock. We just wanted to take this opportunity to say Thanks, Randy and God Bless your work.
