Round Lake Park police say they have arrested a man on charges that he molested a girl in the village in 2006.
Police Chief George Filenko announced Saturday that Rudimiro Huerta, 45, who most recently lived on the 4500 block of South Avers Avenue in Chicago, has been charged with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse in the case that dates more than six years.
“Although national statistics have shown a decline in reported child sexual abuse cases, the problem still exists,” Filenko said. “We are committed to providing justice to victims and encourage all victims to come forward”
During a hearing Friday, a judge ordered Huerta to be held in lieu of 10 percent of a $100,000 bond at the Lake County jail. Filenko said police took Huerta into custody Thursday.
Filenko said Round Lake Park police detectives were contacted in November by the victim’s mother. He said the mom informed investigators that she recently had been contacted by Chicago Public Schools officials regarding a possible molestation of her daughter in Round Lake Park on Dec. 24, 2006.
Detectives were told the victim, who was 7 at the time, and her mother attended a holiday party in Round Lake Park when the attack is reported to have occurred, Filenko said. The woman and her daughter live in Chicago.
Working with the Lake County Children’s Advocacy Center — a division of the state’s attorney’s office — Round Lake Park investigators capped the roughly two-month probe by finding Huerta at his Chicago home Thursday. Filenko said Huerta was questioned and made admissions to detectives regarding the molestation accusations.Copyright © 2014 Paddock Publications, Inc. All rights reserved.
