Schaumburg police say a man suffered serious injuries after jumping over a second-level railing late Saturday afternoon inside Woodfield Mall.
Police Sgt. John Nebl said what prompted the 24-year-old Evanston manís leap in the busy mall is under investigation. No one else was injured.
Nebl said police and fire department personnel responded to emergency calls at 4:28 p.m. to a section of the mall near JC Penney. He said the man jumped from the second level to the first.
ďAt this point, we donít know why he did it,Ē Nebl said.
Nebl said the man was taken to Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village, where he was in serious condition with injuries that were not considered life threatening. He said a patrol officer and a police sergeant were sent to the hospital, but itís not believed the Evanston man had any criminal intent with the leap.
Police interviewed a companion of the man, Nebl said. He declined to say what the companion told police.Copyright © 2013 Paddock Publications, Inc. All rights reserved.
