Local youth theater troupe Schaumburg On Stage will recreate the Roaring '20s with performances of the 2002 Tony Award winner for best musical — “Thoroughly Modern Millie” — over the next two weekends at Schaumburg's Prairie Center for the Arts.
The musical — adapted from the 1967 movie starring Julie Andrews — tells the story of Kansas girl Millie Dillmount, who finds adventure after misadventure when she moves to New York to find a rich husband.
The cast consists of more than 70 performers from 8 to 21 years old from throughout the Northwest and Western suburbs, who've been rehearsing since October. The show features songs from both the original movie and the more recent Broadway production.
Performances will be at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 25; Saturday, Jan. 26; Friday, Feb. 1 and Saturday, Feb. 2. There also will be 2 p.m. shows on Saturday, Jan. 26; Sunday, Jan. 27; Saturday, Feb. 2; and Sunday, Feb. 3.
Tickets are $18 for adults and $16 students and seniors age 62 and older. Group rates and theater-dinner packages are available. For more information or to buy tickets, call (847) 345-0092.
