Teen killed outside high school basketball game

Police are investigating the death of a 17-year-old boy who was shot outside a gym at Chicago State University after a high school basketball game.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office says Tyrone Lawson was shot multiple times and died late Wednesday at Advocate Christ Medical Center.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports police arrested two people after the shooting and recovered a weapon.

Authorities say Lawson was shot after a game between Simeon and Morgan Park high schools. Chicago Public Schools often uses facilities at the university to provide a neutral setting for athletic events.

Officials with Chicago State say they’re saddened by the shooting and plan to investigate to learn details about the shooting. The university’s statement says the shooting was the first such incident on campus.
