Emery gets his man in Trestman
At last: It took weeks and a gazillion interviews, but Bears GM Phil Emery wanted an offensive-oriented head coach and he finally got one. Sure, he had to go to Canada to do it, but he got his man.Ladies and gentlemen ... Marc Trestman!
Sounds right: Trestman. Has that crunchy, two-syllable sound Bears fans love, doesn't it?Trest-man. Dit-ka. Per-fect.
The question: Now that Trestman is in tow, is it possible the Bears might finally have a 21st century offense?Or is that dreaming too big?
Soothing words: “He's a phenomenal offensive mind and a great game-day play caller.”— former 49ers QB Steve Young talking Trestman on the “Waddle & Silvy Show.”
But …: If Trestman can't get in sync with QB Jay Cutler, all the fancy offensive schemes out there aren't going to mean diddly.
Simply put: This is Cutler's last stand.
How long til we hear ...: “Hey, if this Trestman guy can't get the offense going, send him back north. I'll hang up and listen for my answer.”I'm guessing it'll come by the third exhibition game.
