Saints’ Kromer joins Bears as offensive coordinator

Longtime NFL offensive line coach Aaron Kromer, who was the New Orleans Saints’ interim head coach for the first six games this season, will be the Bears’ offensive coordinator and offensive line coach.

The Bears’ new head coach, Marc Trestman, will call the offensive plays, however. Kromer and Trestman were on the same Oakland Raiders staff from 2001-03 that went to Super Bowl XXXVII but lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 48-21 in San Diego.

Kromer was the Saints’ head coach this season while recently re-signed head coach Sean Payton and assistant head coach/linebackers coach Joe Vitt served their suspensions from the NFL’s “Bountygate” scandal. The Saints went 2-4 in those games.

Kromer was the offensive line coach at Northwestern from 1999-2000, then worked with the Raiders’ O-line from 2001-04. He spent three seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before joining Payton’s staff in New Orleans as the running backs coach. Since 2009, he had been the offensive line coach there.
