Be aware of games kids are playing
As a society, we are beginning to examine what might lead a young man to go on a shooting spree as occurred in Newtown, Conn. We do know that exposure to violence in any form has been linked to aggressive behavior. Whether that was the case in Connecticut will remain a mystery.
As a pediatrician, I advise parents to become familiar with the video games their child is playing and discuss the role of violence. I commend Kevin Slota of Algonquin for removing violent video games from his arcade. As he said, there are many other games to replace them with; a good example for other parents to follow.
