Icy conditions lead to 11-car pileup in Schaumburg

By Steve Zalusky

Icy road conditions contributed to an 11-car pileup on the Elgin-O’Hare Expressway in the Schaumburg area late Saturday night, according to Illinois State Police.

Police said the multiple car pileup occurred at 11:06 p.m. in the westbound lanes, just east of Lake Street.

Police said there were six separate crashes, two personal injury crashes and four with property damage only.

None of the injuries was fatal. A 7-year-old girl was transported to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates with neck pain, and a woman with chest pain was also taken to St. Alexius.

The road was closed westbound at Gary Avenue and reopened a short time later.
