Winter weather coming tonight
Winter's back.
After enjoying above-normal temperatures for the last few days, a blast of winter weather is set to hit the suburbs tonight.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory from 9 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday for every county in northeastern Illinois. The advisory warns of a mix of rain and freezing rain turning into sleet and then snow, making travel hazardous. The snow will last until about 4 a.m., when a freezing drizzle is expected to take its place.
The National Weather Service says that the wet weather — snow, sleet and freezing rain — will start to arrive between 7 and 11 p.m. and will continue into Sunday. The early prediction is for 1-2 inches of snow by the time the storm passes, with hazardous travel an expected byproduct.
Sunday looks even colder. Temperatures are said to drop into the midteens.
