At the Illinois Occupational Therapy Association’s (ILOTA) annual state conference held in November, the School Association for Special Education in DuPage County’s (SASED) Occupational/Physical Therapy Coordinator, Cheryl Huber-Lee, was named Illinois Occupational Therapist of the Year.
Long recognized throughout the region as an innovative administrator and practitioner, Ms. Huber-Lee has served the districts and students of SASED for 21 years and has skillfully led the occupational and physical therapy staff for the past 15 years. The Illinois Occupational Therapy Association honors outstanding contributions of an occupational therapist at its annual conference in support of the organization’s mission to acknowledge and promote professional excellence through a proactive, organized collaboration with occupational therapy personnel, the health care community, governmental agencies and consumers.
Ms. Huber-Lee currently directs a staff of 55 professionals who have consistently and emphatically expressed their respect and appreciation for Cheryl’s leadership and professionalism. For the past four years, Cheryl’s staff has reported the organization’s highest levels of approval with Administration, Working Conditions and Professional Development opportunities on SASED’s annual satisfaction survey. On Friday, November 30, prior to the start of their monthly professional development meeting, the SASED OT/PT staff held a reception to honor Ms. Huber-Lee where she expressed her appreciation for the opportunities she has been afforded in the position. She further acknowledged that any success she has achieved has been based on the great work that her staff does every day.
SASED Executive Director, Dr. Michael Volpe stated, “On behalf of the board of control and administration, we are all extremely pleased that the exemplary leadership Cheryl provides every day for the students, families and districts of SASED was recognized by ILOTA.
