By

No injuries were reported during a barn fire Tuesday afternoon on a vacant resident watchman property in the Cook County Forest Preserve District on Penny Road west of Old Sutton Road between South Barrington and Barrington Hills.

The approximately 30-foot by 90-foot barn was already engulfed in flames by the time Barrington Hills police officers arrived after the 12:20 p.m. call, said Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District Fire Chief Jim Arie.

"Basically, it was destroyed," he said.

Fire officials estimate $120,000 in damage. They continue to investigate the cause.

A total of 18 departments aided the effort: Carpentersville, Lake Zurich, Long Grove, Fox River Grove, Cary, Palatine Rural, Wheeling, Rolling Meadows, Hanover Park, Wauconda, Nunda, Long Grove, Hoffman Estates, Arlington Heights, Palatine, Buffalo Grove, Bartlett, and MESS Canteen.
