ROCKFORD, Ill. — The lack of snow in northern parts of the state means the Illinois Snow Sculpting Competition has been postponed.
The competition was scheduled for Jan. 16, but organizers say it now will be Jan. 23-26 in Rockford's Sinnissippi Park. Teams from around Illinois compete and the winners represent Illinois in the U.S. Nationals Snow Sculpting Competition. Snow is collected from Chicago Rockford International Airport to provide teams with snow blocks for the competition. Organizers say there isn't enough snow at the airport right now.
This is the 27th year for the competition. It was canceled twice, once during the 1990s and again in 2008.
