10-year sentence for abuse that nearly killed boy

By

MADISON, Wis. — A Madison man has been sentenced to ten years in prison for physically abusing his former girlfriend’s 4-year-old son who suffered brain damage and nearly died.

Twenty-seven-year-old Jerry Ehrett claimed the boy fell while riding his bike. But, a jury convicted Ehrett of child abuse causing great bodily harm. The State Journal reports a criminal complaint says Ehrett pushed the boy into a kitchen counter in August 2011.

Assistant District Attorney Matthew Moeser says the child nearly died, but survived with severe brain damage and will require lifelong care.
