A former Illinois power broker convicted of trying to extort money from a movie producer has about two more weeks to report to prison.
Springfield businessman William Cellini was initially supposed to begin serving his one-year prison sentence Friday, but he was granted an extension until Jan. 22.
Cellini was once known as the “King of Clout.” Jurors found him guilty last year of trying to shake down the producer of “Million Dollar Baby” for a $1.5 million political contribution to then-Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s campaign. Cellini dropped his appeal in November.
U.S. attorney’s spokesman Randall Samborn says that at the same time, the judge granted a request by Cellini’s lawyers to push back the date on which he must report to prison.Copyright © 2013 Paddock Publications, Inc. All rights reserved.
