Man found dead in car in Antioch

A 26-year-old man was found dead in his vehicle in Antioch on Christmas Eve, officials said.

The man — whose name has not yet been released — died of alcohol intoxication and exposure to the cold elements, said Lake County Coroner Thomas Rudd.

The man had shown up to an ex-girlfriend’s house very intoxicated on Dec. 23, Rudd said. The woman told officials she had not seen the man in a year.

According to police, the woman told him to leave, but he was too drunk, so she reportedly put him in the passenger seat of his car and drove him back to his business in Wisconsin.

When they arrived and found no one there to take care of him, the woman drove back to Antioch, parked the car a block from her house and left the man sleeping in the passenger seat.

Police found the man dead at 7:47 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 24, Rudd said.

Rudd said at this point it looks like an accidental death, but that the series of events is a little strange, so an autopsy is planned for Thursday morning to rule out any signs of foul play.

Officials are not yet releasing the man’s name, his blood alcohol content or the exact location where he was found.
